Exciting news! Autism Speaks gave Art Now for Autism a Community Investor award! Congratulations to all of our 2009 artists and supporters! Here is the award! –>

Don’t forget the Breaking Traditions art quilt exhibit! Organizer Lynn Krawczyk has selected an autism theme for this year’s exhibit and the exhibit will support our fundraising efforts for Autism Speaks. Deadline is August 21, 2010. Visit http://www.fibraartysta.com/breakingtraditionsmain.html for all the details.

Many have asked about the Art Now for Autism 2010 exhibit and fundraiser. After a lot of thought, I have decided not to hold an exhibit this year. A variety of reasons were a part of this decision including the current economy. In the meantime, I am developing a NEW autism awareness project which I will be sure to update you on later this year. And of course, I will contact you with plans for 2011 as it gets closer.

Thank you for your support!

Attention Fiber Artists! Exciting News! Lynn Krawczyk’s Breaking Traditions Art Quilt Exhibit will support Art Now for Autism’s fundraising efforts on behalf of Autism Speaks.

The Breaking Traditions Art Quilt Exhibit is an annual exhibit that hangs at The American Sewing Expo in Novi, Michigan. It is an open call exhibit and an excellent show opportunity which includes prizes. Breaking Traditions has become a community effort, helping to support the fundraising projects of fellow fiber/mixed media artists. Past exhibits have supported Bernie Berlin’s A Place to Bark and Virginia Spiegel’s Fiber Art for a Cause. We are honored to be selected by Lynn!

The exhibit theme is “In My Words…” Artists are encouraged to express the ways in which autism has effected their lives by making a 12 x 12 inch art quilt. If you have not been personally touched by autism, you can still participate by making a quilt in support of autism research. $10 of the $15 entry fee will be donated to Autism Speaks through Art Now for Autism. The deadline for participating is August 21, 2010. For all the details, please visit the Breaking Traditions web site.

As a little inspiration, here is my art quilt which I made several years ago for one of the Art Now for Autism exhibits. The piece is called Putting the Pieces Together. I am looking forward to making a new piece (or two!) for Breaking Traditions!

Art Now for Autism 2009 – Our final donation total is $4,730 which I think is terrific! If you add in money raised through our cause page on Facebook… $271… We have a grand total of $5,001!

You can still contribute to the cause by making a donation through our Autism Speaks’ donation page or by purchasing t-shirts, hats, and bags in our Cafe Press shop.

I greatly appreciate everyone’s participation, support, publicity help, etc! I could go on and on for quite some time about the long list of people that help me make this happen!

I have sent messages to all of the artists whose work has sold. Everything is in the process of shipping with the exception of three pieces that I am waiting for donors on. Below is a list of all the art that sold. If you have any questions about your art, please email me.

That’s all for now! I will let everyone know plans for next year some time in the Spring. I am working with another artist on plans for a second Art Now event… fingers crossed.

THANK YOU!!!!

THANK YOU!
THANK YOU!
THANK YOU!

Art Now for Autism 2009 has come to a close! Saturday was the last day for this year’s exhibit and reverse auction. We have raised over $4,700!

You can still contribute to the cause by making a donation through our Autism Speaks’ donation page or by purchasing t-shirts, hats, and bags in our Cafe Press shop. (The design above can be found there.)

Many thanks to all of our artists and donors! We could not have done this without you! I hope you will participate again next year!

Notes for buyers: Artists will be shipping art directly to the buyers this year. Please allow a little extra time as the art is shipping from around the United States and beyond. Art will not be shipped until Claudine has confirmation of your donation to Autism Speaks – either through their web site or by check. Any orders not paid by October 15th will be cancelled. Please contact Claudine if you have questions.

Please be sure to visit our artists’ web sites and support their art! They are such a gifted group who realize the importance of helping others. Click here to visit the artist link page.

Be sure to stop by the blog of Beth Wheeler, who just released a new book, Next Steps In Altered Photo Artistry. She has posted a padfolio project on her site in celebration. Also – see her video on The Quilt Show with Ricky Tims and Alex Anderon. Congrats to Beth! Can’t wait to see it in my local bookstore!
