Today’s amazing piece of art comes from artist Dawn Klyczek. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
THIRD ANNUAL ART NOW FOR AUTISM AIMS TO RAISE FUNDS FOR AUTISM AWARENESS AND RESEARCH

Annapolis, MD — For the third year in a row, local artist Claudine Intner has organized Art Now for Autism, an online exhibition and fundraiser. The project raises funds for Autism Speaks, a national autism awareness and research organization. Over 85 artists from around the United States and beyond are participating.

The third annual Art Now for Autism will be held October 1-10, 2009 online at www.artnowforautism.com and will include the work of 89 artists from around the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, France, Australia, and Italy. The exhibit will include a range of fine arts and crafts including painting, drawing, collage, photography, mixed media, jewelry, fiber art and more. The exhibit includes several artists with autism and many other artists who have family members with autism. 100% of the funds raised from the sale of art will go to Autism Speaks.

This year’s exhibit includes a four day preview and a six day reverse auction. During October 1-4, the entire exhibit will be available online as a preview. Starting at 9am EST on October 5, art will be sold in a reverse auction with prices dropping every two days. October 5-6 all art will be $90. On October 7-8, all art will be $60. On October 9-10, any remaining art will drop to $30.

Claudine Intner was inspired to start this project by her son who has autism.  When Intner’s son was diagnosed in 2005, she and her husband were devastated.  They worked hard to find the best education and treatment for their son, but they felt a need to do more. In 2006, Intner began selling her own art to raise money and in 2007, she organized the first Art Now for Autism. Over $14,000 has been raised so far, and Intner hopes to raise an additional $7,000 this year.

Art Now for Autism coincides with the Washington, DC Walk Now for Autism organized by Autism Speaks. Claudine Intner, along with her family, will participate in this event held on October 31, 2009 on the National Mall. For further information on the walk, visit www.walknowforautism.org.

Autism is a growing epidemic. According to the CDC, 1 in 150 children in the United States have an autism spectrum disorder.
