We have received our first submissions to this year’s Art Now for Autism. Many thanks to Fabio Sassi who submitted 5 wonderful pieces including the above, called Elvis Red Tab. This is Fabio’s second year participating. He lives in Italy and creates fascinating work using spray paint. To learn more about Fabio, visit his web site… www.fabiosassi.blogspot.com
Earlier this week I was able to honor my Hometown Heroes for Autism Spectrum Disorders. These awards are given to local Anne Arundel County, Maryland teachers, parents, family members, therapists, etc. who make a difference in the autism community. I nominated two of my son’s wonderful teachers and was so glad that I could show my appreciation for everything they do. It was a very touching evening with lots of wonderful tributes. On a fun note, everyone at the event got to enjoy the autism ribbon cake from Charm City Cakes (Check out their show on the Food Network called Ace of Cakes!) Really neat.

Details on this year’s Art Now for Autism were released a week ago and we already have a bunch of artists already committing to participate! They include: Sharon Anderson * Jan Blencowe * Tricia Burr * Cyndy Carsten * Patricia Cox * Pam Farley * Olga Golanov * Claudine Intner * Lisa Konkel * Katherine McNeese * Gail Surya Rains * Nancy Bell Scott * Karla Smith * Lorraine Strohkirch * Elizabeth Woodford. Some of these are returning artists… some are new. For details on participating, click here.
As you know, 100% of art sales are going to Autism Speaks. I thought you might find it interesting to read about some of the projects, research, resources, etc. that they provide. Click here to see. Also one of my personal favorites is IAN – the Interactive Autism Network - which links autism researchers and families. Really amazing stuff!

So I just put finishing touches on the details for this year’s Art Now for Autism. Wow! I have made some big changes so I hope all of you will be understanding and not freak out. Remember, change is a good thing!
First off, Art Now will be a reverse auction this year. The exhibit will be October 1-10, 2009. The first four days will be a preview of art. The entire exhibit will be open, but you won’t be able to buy. Starting October 5th, the reverse auction begins. You might think, “What the heck is a reverse auction?” Well, basically the prices go down instead of up. Day 1 & 2 of the reverse auction, everything will be $90. On Day 3 & 4, art will be $60. On Day 5 & 6, art will be $30… Day 6 is the final day. The reverse auction will be exciting and encourage donors to buy now instead of wait!
Other changes, the deadline for art donations is now a full month ahead of the exhibit. This will allow me to get a bigger and better exhibit together. Deadline is September 1, 2009!
Also artists will now send only digital images to me for use in the exhibit. Artists will hold their work until it sells and then ship their work directly to the buyer. This will cut down on extra shipping.
So let’s get started!!!
THANK YOU!!!!
- Claudine
(Small note… I am getting an awful lot of blog spam so I have comments on moderate… So if you comment on a post, it might take a little bit for it to show up.)
